About the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences

Student interns in the SLHS department are placed in internships all over the culturally and linguistically rich San Francisco Bay Area, including urban, suburban and rural schools; private practices; rehabilitation facilities; skilled nursing facilities; acute care medical settings; and more. The SLHS department has access to over 20 school districts and 36 medical facilities that are available for placing SFSU speech-language therapy interns through established memoranda of understanding (MOUs). Internship experiences range from low-income schools with predominantly English-language learners, to rehabilitation centers with veterans, to clients with voice disabilities, to patients with head injuries.
