This workshop will provide education regarding the transgender community and resources, common terminology, and considerations for cultural awareness. Voice and communication characteristics related to gender will be identified. A physiologic and voice science approach will be applied to evaluation and treatment of transgender clients. Therapeutic techniques will be presented and demonstrated and the role of phone apps discussed. We will explore surgical options, in the event that voice therapy is ‘not enough’. And, lastly, clinical cases will be presented to highlight these topics in action.
Sarah Schneider is the Speech Language Pathology Director at the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of all aspects of voice, with expertise in the professional speaking and singing voice.
